SCHOOL NEWS

Students Crossing Glen Stewart Drive

Parents are asked to assist our younger students when crossing Glen Stewart Drive in the morning and at the end of the school day. There is no crosswalk in this area.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair begins on Monday, May 5 and ends on the morning of Friday, May 9. It will be held in our school library for our staff and students. Each class will have the opportunity to visit the fair. Teachers may notify families when their child is to visit the Book Fair. Thanks to everyone for their support with this huge fundraiser for our school library.

Cell Phone Policy

We’ve had some recent inquiries regarding cell phone/digital device use in school and on our school buses. The following highlights the PSB policy regarding Personally-Owned Mobile Devices (PMDs) in K-6 schools.

Mobile devices are not permitted during school hours and must be turned off or silenced. Students are required to turn off and store their devices out of sight and silenced upon arrival at school. Devices may only be used with an educator’s permission for specific educational activities, medical purposes, or in support of special education needs.

While at school or on a school bus, students must not take or send videos or pictures of students, school staff, or visitors with their devices. A supervising teacher must give permission to a student for any occasion that a student wishes to create an audio or video recording for educational purposes.

Grade 6 Provincial Writing Assessment

In May, Grade 6 students (English and French Immersion) in Prince Edward Island will take part in a provincial assessment of writing skills. The Provincial Elementary Writing Assessment will measure writing skills learned up to the end of Grade 6. The assessment is developed by teachers and department staff based on the curriculum that students learn every day in class. Please see the attached PDF.

FROM OUTSIDE AGENCIES

The Young Millionaires Program

The Young Millionaires Program is back for its 33rd year of Youth Entrepreneurship! Our program offers youth ages 8-16 the opportunity to discover and develop new essential skills through the exploration of Entrepreneurship. YMP youth know the power of Innovation and Creativity,  how to develop their ideas and set achievable goals, how to budget and how to be more effective and patient communicators in our workshops, and while attending group events and activities from June -September.   We do this by offering micro grants between $150-200 to eligible youth to begin their businesses ( please see www.youngmillionairesprogram.ca for more information ).

Our 2025 registrations will be open May1st-June 5th, and any individuals who wish to have a YMP representative in to deliver a short and positive informational presentation to your classrooms may reach out to ymp@centralpei.ca to schedule a time and date.
